If ever a book demonstrates the appeal of Shabbat to a child, it’s Saturdays are Special. On the very first page, the little girl describes Saturday as “splendid”, “special” and “happy”. Shabbat means playtime with daddy and singing fun songs at shul, reading together and family cuddles. The story continues right up to the end of Shabbat, showing the three stars in the sky and depicting Havdalah as an enticing feast for the senses. With its adorable watercolour illustrations and simple, flowing rhymes, this is a very lovely, child-friendly book that offers three- and four-year-olds – and the adults in their lives — a great model of a family celebrating Shabbat.
