At Gefiltefest we’re all about celebrating Jewish food heritage – and what better place to start learning about your culinary roots than your Friday night dinner table?
Is your Friday night staple roast chicken or sofrito, roast potatoes or pilaf? I wonder – do your dishes contain stories untold?
A lovely activity for your children is to have them make little flags of the country of origin of the dishes you’ll be serving. During dinner you can use the flags as prompt to discuss the food stories of your family. I imagine they will take you on a culinary journey beyond the postcode you currently live in!

You can continue exploring Jewish culinary journeys at Gefiltefest, The Jewish Food Festival, now in its 7
th year. The day-long event, held on Sunday, June 26
th, at JW3, has a wonderful programme for adults and children alike.
The children’s programme includes a collaboration with PJ Library and their favourite foodie books, as well as workshops cooking up blintzes, bagels, a Mitzvah Day project and a family learning activity, ‘The Aliyah of Food’.
Adults can choose from over 30 food-themed sessions with top chefs, food writers, educators and journalists.
