Why We Chose This Book: The Littlest Levine

What child hasn’t been told they’re too little for something they yearn to do? When Hannah complains that she’s too small to light the menorah or tie her own shoes, her grandfather explains that soon she’ll be proud to be the littlest Levine. Sure enough, after many evenings of grandparent-grandchild quality time, Hannah is able to fulfil an important role at the seder, asking the Four Questions, and finds that at Pesach, at least, she loves being the youngest.

The bond between Hannah and her grandfather as they share Jewish tradition in this sweet story is a touching example of L’Dor v’Dor (from generation to generation). The beginning of the Ma Nishtanah appears in the text (in transliteration), giving three- and four-year-old subscribers a tantalizing taste of what they have to look forward to. With its modern watercolour illustrations, a main character who acts like a real kid and warm, happy atmosphere, The Littlest Levine is sure to appeal to the whole family.
