Following last year’s success, PJ Library is partnering with Mitzvah Day to help our families and communities put on their own Mitzvah Day Book Swap. It’s a fun easy way for younger people to contribute to Mitzvah Day, get a book in exchange for ones they have finished with, and donate the leftovers to charity.
PJ Library are proud that the books received by children throughout the UK often talk about doing a mitzvah. There are the obvious titles such as The Mitzvah Magician and That’s a Mitzvah, but there are also books where the good deed of a mitzvah is the central value behind the story’s narrative. Aubrey Davis’ Bagels from Benny tells of the protagonist’s display of kindness, and the mitzvah of giving to those less fortunate than ourselves is embedded in the story. The storyline of Chanukah Cookies with Sprinkles has themes of fairness and sharing.
To organise your own Book Swap, get in touch. As well as stickers, signs and tips for your own Book Swap, PJ Library can also provide a free book so you can hold a story time for families who join your book swap. Register here for a PJ Library Mitzvah Day pack with storytelling ideas, mitzvah crafts and ideas on how to hold a book swap in your area.
