The writer of this blog is 9-year-old Ruth. To say thank you for all the great PJ Library books she’s received, she sent us these book reviews which we enjoyed reading so much we wanted to share with all our families! Thanks, Ruth!
I have been getting PJ library books since I was five; luckily I have two siblings that also get them so we have had three every month. Now that I am nine I don't get books anymore, but I will still enjoy my collection. Two of my favourites are The Knish War on Rivington Street and My Grandfather's Coat.
This book is about a coat that gets made into lots of different things. I like My Grandfather's Coat because in it everything gets re-used no matter how small or how tatty it is, it all gets re-used and made into something else that maybe isn't as useful but still something else. And it shows that new generations can come out of nowhere, you never know what you might be able to make next. This book would be good for people any age because it is a very nice story, it has great illustrations and is about lots of generations.
This book is about two families who struggle to get more customers to come buy their knishes. The Knish War on Rivington Street is good because it lets you know that what's on the outside may look better, but what’s on the inside is almost exactly the same. To make people buy knishes the two shops keep giving out raffle tickets, get an oompah band to play outside the shop, have a piano inside just to make them look better so they get customers. Actually what was on the inside of the knishes is almost exactly the same, and even if things are different they can still be good. I think this book will be good for children to enjoy with grown-ups.
