PJ Library Family Stories: Alfons Silverman

To celebrate PJ Library’s fifth Birthday in the UK, we are highlighting five PJ Library families, who feel PJ Library has played a significant role in the family’s access to Jewish education.

Alfons Silverman spent his early years in Nazi Germany, escaping with his parents when he was twelve years old and has written a memoir titled ‘Dual Identity’. Alfons now lives in Stanmore with his wife, surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favourite activity is sitting together as a family reading:

Our family is involved in many organisations, but PJ Library is different. The books enrich Jewish traditions and educate the next generation about the importance of having a strong Jewish identity. PJ Library books have helped bring all the generations of our family closer together and that value is priceless.

Alfons’ story is just one of many that we receive every year illustrating how PJ Library impacts families across the UK.
