Summer 2018 Poetry Competition Results!

This summer, we asked kids to get creative and write a poem about what being Jewish means to them. We received some awesome entries: some funny, some touching, all of them personal! A big thanks and high five to everyone who entered, we can see how much effort you put in - you should be proud of yourselves.

The WINNER of the PJ Library Summer competition is…. Liza, age 8 from London. Our judge Jacqueline Harris said “Liza’s poem was a particularly thoughtful piece, a standout winner!”

And our two magnificent runners’ ups are Talia and Adina. The judge said Talia’s poem ‘Shabbat’ was “well put together with a good sense of rhythm and feeling” and commented that Adina’s poem “required a lot of effort and concentration for a five year old!” Here they are:

Shabbat
My Dad has some wine on Shabbat
The challah is sweet on Shabbat
My Mum lights the candles
My Dad says the prayers
The sun goes down, our week has ended
The weekend begins, it's Shabbat.

Thanks again to all of our young poets, we loved reading your excellent work!
